Getting to Gqeberha, and settling in

The Friendly City in December: long warm days, ocean breezes and easy driving. Here's everything we'd tell you over the phone.

Flying in

Fly into Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport (PLZ). It's roughly two hours from Johannesburg and just over an hour from Cape Town, with several flights daily. The airport sits about 15 minutes from both venues, so you can land the morning of a celebration if you must — though we'd love you to arrive the night before.

Driving & getting around

Gqeberha is an easy drive: roughly 9 hours from Johannesburg and 8 from Cape Town along the N2. Once here, a hired car is the simplest option — all the major agencies are at the airport. Uber and Bolt run reliably in the city too. Both venues have parking on site.

Where to stay

Three areas we'd recommend

Summerstrand & Humewood

Beachfront hotels and guest houses, 15–20 minutes from both venues. Best pick if you want the sea on your doorstep.

Walmer

Closest to the airport and full of leafy guest houses. About 15 minutes from day one's venue.

Kabega Park & Lorraine

Quiet suburbs a short drive from day one's venue, with self-catering options that suit families.

December is peak season on this coast — book your room as early as you can.

Weather & packing

Expect 22–28 °C, strong sun and the famous Gqeberha wind. Pack sunscreen, a hat, swimwear, block heels for grass, and something light for the evening.
